Caring is our virtue of the week! We learn about what it means to be caring, why it's important, how it makes us feel, and how it makes others feel. We will do one virtue per week. This will fall under character education, but nothing in this subject will be graded. I want to teach the girls the many wonderful virtues they need to make them beautiful on the inside. Though there is no graded work, I will make note every time I see them using their virtue of the week on notecards and I will share it with them at the end of the week.
Jen, this is a wonderful idea. Did you find a course on this or where did you get the idea?

I read where someone was using WCV for character education, and I was like, "I want to teach character" so what the heck is WCV?! It is called We Choose Virtues and it is a whopping $98. Comes with posters and cards. What?! So I am doing a cheap twist on it. I searched the net for a complete list of virtues for kids to learn and decided to pair each virtue with FREE library books that are fun. Since caring can be found in so many actions by so many characters in one story, it was easy to find books. We'll read one book a day and discuss the actions we see "caring" taking place, and talk about it! By the end of the week, these girls will know a particular virtue inside and out---and be able to live it! I hope!
Since there are 52 listed, I will move them around and pick the ones that are most important and do the others next time.
Here is the list I found at : http://www.k-3teacherresources.com/virtues-education.html#.UhEujsfD-M9
I am a married, South Carolina homeschooling mama to 3 of my 4 girls. I'll be honest; they drive me NUTS sometimes. But, I am here to tell you that I wouldn't trade it for anything in the world! I'm not your typical homeschool mom. I am not an over-achieving Martha Stewart. I am just a plain, everyday, laid back, patient person. I occasionally slip up a cuss word when I step on Legos, and I mean every word of it. I partake in adult beverages whenever my BFF, a former homeschooler with her MSN who landed an awesome job as a college nursing instructor, can get away so we can reminisce about the good old days. Where most moms can relate, I love my children. Homeschooling has been a blessing for my family, and I am so thankful that I have been able to continue into a second year.
