The girls and I gathered around the table and thought up a game board. We decided it should be Frozen themed (their favorite movie), and it should be generic--meaning ANY game you can possibly think of can use this one game board.
We started out with a poster board purchased at Wal-Mart for $3.88. It's the thick board. We chose the sparkly since it looks like ice.
We cut and numbered pieces of construction paper from 1 to 50. They are different colors for two reasons: (1) it makes each number easier to see, and (2) it separates the even and odd numbers.
Teagan sorted them out and lined them up.
"What will be the challenge?" Neely asked.
Well, it all depends on what game you are playing!
When Teagan got them lined up, I broke out the Krazy glue. This was my part. I glued them in place and this is what we got:
We played around and talked about where we wanted them to go, and we stuck them on.
It was simple and easy for both girls to play. Remember those word popsicle sticks I made? I had no idea when I was making them, that we would use them for this project.
RULES:
Roll the dice and move your counting bear (or whatever you have) that many spaces.
Choose a stick from the can.
Use that word in a sentence. Every sentence during this particular game had to be about a unicorn.
Challenge: If you land on a challenge space you must choose three sticks, and use all three words in the same sentence that STILL should be about a unicorn.
First to finish wins the game.
Now isn't that easy!
I thought it was GREAT! And it was definitely a challenge!
After Neely won (and thank goodness because she's a sore loser sometimes), they wanted to play something else! By this time it was 10pm so it was time for bed. This game board is not going to get old too quickly.
I like it because we can play anything on it.
We can use math problems where you draw a flash card and move as many spaces as the answer. If you land on a challenge you have to come up with a word problem for you card.
We can roll the dice and if you land on an odd number you have to tell a number sentence where your space is the answer. If you land on an even number you have to tell the double of that number. If you land on a challenge....who knows!
We can use it for science or social studies where we make our on question cards using learned material and use the dice.
It's endless.
What made me proud was that the girls' noodles were running rampant! We only had one sticker of bad boy Hans. Both girls came up with the idea that if you land on the space that he is stuck to, you have to move back 5 spaces. How awesome is that?
They are really thinking up some good stuff here.....and that's the point.
Now go make you a favorite character themed game board and get playing!
