There is sickness running through the Lynn house, and I'm not neccessarily talking about children. Mama never gets sick. Mama's can't afford to get sick. It's why mama's work for no monetary pay. We have to. There is no one there to take our place if we happen to come down with a bug. But, this week, I did. I'm not doctor, but I'd bet my paycheck I have bronchitis. I have been miserable. And Teagan, sneaky as she is, got proof, and I came across this beauty when I downloaded my pictures. She just giggled and giggled when I saw it. So only for those who read my blog, here is a never before seen photo from behind the scenes, of me at my not-so-finest.

I wasn't sleeping. I was just waiting on them to finish their math so I could give them something else to do that didn't require me to open my eyes. =) Because when the homeschooling mama is sick, there is no subsitute either.

For the last two days, we have haven't done much that needed a pencil...except
for math. We have been reading like it was 1852 (when there was nothing else to do). We have read about tornados and space and school and puppies and fossils and Harriet Tubman and communities and even a Halloween book written by Jerry Seinfeld---not a very good one, I might add. Teagan has even found time to read TWO Magic Tree House chapter books, quietly to herself and write book reports on them! I am very proud of her.

We have continued our routine of reading first thing in the morning, where the girls read and I cook breakfast. At first, there were whines, but now it's just something they know to do. Neely is a sounding-out machine and I am proud of her as well! She's reading 16+ page books now that have 3 and 4 sentences on each page. I don't know how to test her level yet, but I think she is right on or a little ahead for a kindergartener.

I haven't replaced my printer toner yet, so I had to let them do their math
straight out of one of their books. I hate that. I will spill the beans that the
math curriculum was approximately $300 for first and second grade. I purchased a
couple of books on the side for each grade (Extra Practice and Word Problems), so I let them write in the Extra Practice book.

After math, and lots of reading, we went and relaxed in the living room. I had the girls drill each other on their addition facts---another great activity that doesn't require anything from me. =)

And while they did flash cards and I rested my eyes, Libby just played on her
awesome, inside slide. This is the same slide she pushed over to the thermostat
and took it upon herself to set on 96 degrees. I figured it out right before it
hit 77. At least that could be corrected. This little rounder has cut her hair three times in the last two months. No quick fix for the layers she cut.

I am a married, South Carolina homeschooling mama to 3 of my 4 girls. I'll be honest; they drive me NUTS sometimes. But, I am here to tell you that I wouldn't trade it for anything in the world! I'm not your typical homeschool mom. I am not an over-achieving Martha Stewart. I am just a plain, everyday, laid back, patient person. I occasionally slip up a cuss word when I step on Legos, and I mean every word of it. I partake in adult beverages whenever my BFF, a former homeschooler with her MSN who landed an awesome job as a college nursing instructor, can get away so we can reminisce about the good old days.  Where most moms can relate, I love my children. Homeschooling has been a blessing for my family, and I am so thankful that I have been able to continue into a second year.
